Alma Avila – Regional Director of Sales & Marketing

I am originally from Mexico City, where I studied until my university career. During the first semester of my Communications major (I share that it is easy for me to write!) we went on vacation, but what a vacation!! We truly never imagined what we would experience on that trip. We had an accident on the road – my parents, my sister and I – from Mexico City. We went to Morelia for my grandparents, but that time they did not want to go. The last thing I remember after the accident is to have woken up and I was the first of my family to react and the first thing I did was try to get them out. Fortunately no one lost their lives, but we had severe injuries. It was a very severe event. After the accident, months later we were still in Guerrero / Acapulco, the destination to which we initially headed to enjoy a family vacation. Our family friends who lived in that destination and worked in the hotel business offered …

Meet Your New Staff at Garza Blanca Los Cabos: Javier Garcia, Member Services Manager

The ladies in the Member Services office at Garza Blanca Puerto Vallarta tell me that Javier Garcia is a real Casanova, but he was a little bit shy and reserved when speaking to me for this interview. Javier is serious and modest, brushing off his accomplishments as I asked him to talk about his background. The truth is he’s a rising star at Garza Blanca on the Membership side, and he has just recently earned a promotion that is taking him from Puerto Vallarta all the way to Los Cabos.   Javier was born in Mexico City and did his undergraduate studies in Puerto Vallarta in the field of Business Administration. He then went on to law school in Spain, where he earned his master’s degree in law from Complutense University of Madrid, which is one of the oldest universities in the world and one of the largest in Europe. He returned to Puerto Vallarta, armed with his new law degree, and he started working at Garza Blanca in January of 2015. With his undergrad …

We try to make sure when a member purchases a membership they understand everything they’re getting, and they feel comfortable and happy with their membership,” Ximena said. “We make sure everything they were promised is in the contract. Our goal is to make sure that their membership is affordable and it brings them joy in their vacation. Recounting 2018: A Message From Our General Manager

The new year has arrived and with it many memories! Many achievements, much learning and above all, growth of our people. 2018 has been a year full of challenges, and it fills me with pride to share that we have reached the goals we had set for ourselves in the satisfaction of our guests, which is what we try to maintain here, and this motivates us to continue making this place a real second home for each person who visits us. We had important investment projects that reaffirm the commitment of the TAFER group and Villa del Palmar Cancún to continue maintaining the property, keeping it updated and in the best possible condition; The remodeling of all our studio-type rooms to condition them according to AAA standards in the category of 4 diamonds, the replacement of 60% of the custom manufactured mattresses for TAFER group, the creation of a new area to provide greater comfort in our pools called “ZAK”, the complete remodeling of the Davino restaurant and the total change of furniture in our …

Karina Cruz – Wedding Coordinator

Karina, thank you for your time. Tell us a little bit about yourself. I am originally from Villahermosa, Tabasco. I am very happy with everything I have done and do now, I have been living in Cancun for 6 years now! A place without equal, a place with many opportunities! Coming to Cancun was an excellent and important decision in my life which has opened many doors and allowed me to continue adding personal experience and developing professionally.   I came looking for new opportunities, I ventured, but always trusting that I would find my “opportunity”, to grow in my field and gain experience in what I love so much: logistics, coordination of groups, weddings in one of the tourist destinations and most important wedding destinations!   I confess at first it was not so easy because I certainly had a plan outlined, I set myself a time to find work and settle down, otherwise fulfilling that time if I did not have what I thought, I would go back to my city, with only …

Hugo-Pina-Bar-Manager

Hugo Pina – Bar Manager

Hugo, thank you for sharing your time with us. We would love to know a little about you. I wanted to be a sailor and I wanted to study in military school, but I took the entrance exam for the naval school and I had no luck, so I decided to study Food and Beverage. When I did my internship I got experience in different departments: the kitchen, dining room service, restaurant administration, and the bar. During the internship in the first hotel where I was, I started in the bar division. I confess that I also like the kitchen and I’m drawn to the kitchen, but I prefer drinks. I worked in restaurants for a short time, which are a very different business than hotels, but I found that I love hotel operation, so I decided to return to hotels.   In hotel operation I learned many more things that I now put into practice, such as standards, certifications, processes, how to handle a large volume of beverages and products.   And that is …

Isabel Sibaja – Kids’ Club Manager

Isabel, thank you very much for your time today. I would love to know a little about you.   I am originally from the city of Coatzacoalcos in the state of Veracruz. It is an oil zone, and the economy is based on oil. Most people who live there work in the oil industry. My whole family moved to Cancun when I was 4 years old, because my father was transferred from his job in Coatzacoalcos to Cancun. When I was 13, we returned to Veracruz with my mother. I went to school in Veracruz, but I always told myself that if I had any chance, I would return to live and make my life in Cancun! I love Cancun; it is my favorite place because it’s clean and quiet. I have 2 children that I love, and they are my drive to be a better person every day. When I returned to Cancun I started working in the hotel industry right away, in the service area and in the Food and Beverage division. There …

David Gonzalez – Guest Services Manager

David, thank you very much for your time today. Could you share us a little about yourself? (Where are you from? How many years in Cancun? Family, etc.)   Of course. I am very fortunate to have a family that I love. I have 3 siblings (2 sisters, my brother and me). I am originally from Peto, Yucatán and I came to Cancun 9 years ago, to study at University for my career. I studied sustainable tourism and hotel management. It is a field that includes hotel management, planning and development, alternative tourism, mass tourism, sustainability, and ecological impact.   I also studied archeology, and I am passionate about everything that has to do with matter: discoveries, history, culture. But by chance I ended up dedicating myself to the hotel industry, and what I discovered there also fascinates me.   I like to read all kinds of books. I enjoy reading novels, and also motivational books that I use and put into practice at work with my team.   What activities do you recommend to …

Dennise Bernal – Purchasing Manager

Dennise Bernal is the Manager of the Department of Purchases at Villa Del Palmar Cancun. Our Communications Manager, Gabriela Uribe caught up with her and asked Dennise to share a little bit about herself and her role at Villa Del Palmar Cancun.   Dennise a thousand thanks for your time today. I would love to know a little about you.   I have been living in Cancun for 6 and a half years. I love it although I confess that I never thought about leaving Vallarta, but the opportunity to grow professionally took place and here we are learning many things every day. I am originally from Guadalajara, but I moved to Puerto Vallarta when I was 4 years old, so I am “pata salada” (as the people of Vallarta are called). I am a happy, optimistic, friendly person. I am very close with my family. We are 5 siblings in total, and I am the middle child. Something that characterizes my family is that we are very united in spite of the distance between …

Your Expert Sommelier, Jose Martin Ek

Originally from Mérida, Yucatán, Jose Martin is a member of a hardworking family whose work ethic was instilled to him as a young boy by his father. Today, after 25 years of working in Cancun, having worked in various hotel departments from Rooms Division to Reception, he is an integral member of the Food and Beverage Department at Villa del Palmar Cancun sharing his knowledge of wines as sommelier.   Read on to learn more about Jose Martin in our recent interview. What experiences have made you the man you are today? Watching my father as I was growing up had a profound impact on my work ethic. He was always working so hard. I had the best example. He would encourage me and my siblings to work hard too, and we all had jobs during the holidays. He didn’t like us working during term time as he wanted us to focus on our studies, but in the vacations, we all worked. We did all kinds of things from cleaning, picking up tennis balls on …
