When you visit Cabo San Lucas and the surrounding area you will have ample opportunities for fun and family friendly sporting activities! Here are just a few.
ATV & Dune Buggy
Satisfy your need for speed! The deserts around Cabo San Lucas are perfect for racing around in these off road vehicles, and if you have teenagers this is a great family activity. Anyone age 16 and up with a valid driver’s licence can drive one. Tours are typically 3 hours long.
If racing on dry land isn’t your thing, get your adrenaline rush by renting jet skis at Medano Beach and cruising around the bay. Check with the tour operator ahead of time to find out the minimum age for driving a jet ski solo. Some will allow children 16 and up with a valid driver’s license to drive, while others require drivers to be 17 or 18. Minor children can often ride along with parents on the same jetski.
In the last few years FlyBoarding has taken over as the most eye catching sport on the water. The FlyBoard is a device connected and powered by a personal watercraft, which allows propulsion underwater and in the air. Users are connected to the board by wakeboard boots, under which water pressure provides thrust. A certified trainer controls the power and height, and the rider controls all the movement. It is certainly captivating to watch, and could be a great activity for you and your family to try! Riders must be at least 10 years of age, and minors under 18 must have parental consent.
Stand Up Paddle Board
There are several stand up paddle board companies, taking off from Medano Beach and Old Cannery Beach. Tour instructors give a brief lesson and then allow you to paddle around. Depending on the area where you are, you can paddle around the pay or to the arch. The minimum age is usually 12 years old. Depending on which lesson you choose, prices average from $25 to $85 per person.
Surfing can be one of the most fun and family friendly activities to do in Cabo. There are many great surf instructors and surf schools in Cabo to choose from. The best spots for beginners just learning to surf are Cerritos beach on the Pacific side, and Costa Azul in Cabo.
Snorkeling doesn’t necessarily require booking a tour ahead of time, depending on your desires. You can drive to a local beach and swim out yourself, but make sure to stay away from the Pacific side of the peninsula, because the waters have strong currents can be dangerous. If you prefer to have a guide, you can find a local snorkeling tour company or charter a private boat to take you out on the water.
Zip lines are appropriate for kids 8 years and up. Just be prepared to hike from line to line. It’s usually about a 5 to 15 minute walk from one line to the next. The guides are experts at helping your kids get across the zip lines safely, and making sure everyone has a fun time.
Tour operators in San Jose Del Cabo offer guided horseback rides for all ages. You can choose a tour along the beach or up into the canyon.
