Learn How to Grill to Perfection with the Champions of the Annual Grill Masters Competition: The Grilling Bastards

At Villa del Palmar Cancun, we delight in surprising and treating our guests, so we are starting off the new year on the right foot with an event to interest barbecue lovers and connoisseurs. 

On January 29 and 30, 2020, the Grilling Bastards will be at Villa del Palmar to teach our guests about techniques for roasting and smoking meat, the proper handling of grills and equipment, boosting flavor with seasoning rubs, creating sauces on grills and much more!  

Who are the Grilling Bastards? 

The Grilling Bastards are a group of friends and entrepreneurs that met in University. René Lara, Oscar Palos, Alejandro Maraver and Ray Melano organized barbecues every weekend to compete for the title of best grill master. They shared tips and recipes with each other and were always trying to improve their techniques.   

One day they decided to broaden their scope and put their recipes online. In 2013, The Grilling Bastards was born, a project to bring simple and delicious grill recipes to the public. They are the current national champions of the most important barbecue championship in Latin America, Grill Master HEB, an annual event held in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The event is held over two days with more than 28 thousand people spectating, tasting dishes and attending talks and grill courses. 

Currently, the Grilling Bastards dedicate their time to teaching grill courses throughout Mexico. Their courses are designed for those who want to learn grilling techniques and create tasty recipes all while enjoying good company and a dose of humor. The techniques and recipes showcased in the courses are practical for use on residential grills so that people can recreate the dishes at home with family and friends.  

  Come and join the Grilling Bastards! You will not regret it. The grill course is aimed at any barbecue enthusiast who wants to start giving life to their grill and using it properly, as well as for anyone who would like to learn new recipes. The course is available for a nominal fee, limit of 20 people per class, divided into groups of 5. 

During the last week of January, we will also be joined by Billy Ray Pitmaster BBQ, a young man who is giving people something to talk about in the Dominican Republic. He is passionate about barbecuing and will visit us to share his knowledge and best dishes 

 Billy Ray will be participating in the special event that we are preparing for the Superbowl LIV 2020, where together with our culinary team, he will prepare something unforgettable for this important day happening on Sunday, February 2nd
