Be Safe this Summer in Cancun

Summer is upon us, (albeit every day is like summer in Cancun) and it’s time to think about taking your summer vacations and perhaps even using your Club Caribe preferred points. Summer is a prime time to use your membership for a vacation at Villa del Palmar Cancun as warm sea temperatures as well as seasonal activities like whale shark tours make the summer months unique.

Your safety and health should always be a priority on vacation, and when visiting hot destinations like Cancun in Mexico. Heeding some simple advice can help ensure your Club Caribe vacation in Cancun flows perfectly without any health and safety issues. Below you will find some top tips:

Swimming, Alcohol and Eating Don’t Mix

Sea and pool safety are important considerations when on vacation. It is always a good idea to leave some time between eating a heavy meal or drinking alcoholic beverages before swimming, especially in the sea. For your safety and wellbeing, using the pools in a state of obvious inebriation is prohibited by Villa del Palmar Cancun pool regulations and entering the sea in such a state is highly discouraged.

SPF Sunblock

It may sound obvious, but it is worth repeating that in hot, sunny climates like Cancun, a good sunscreen is important to protect any skin exposed to the sun. A good sunscreen will help reduce the effect of the sun’s harmful rays. However, while most of us are advocates of sunscreen, many of us don’t realize the importance of regular application. Most sunscreens should be reapplied after an hour or so (80 minutes) and any products claiming to be water resistant should be reapplied after 40 minutes and after exiting the water. Another key point that is often overlooked is that a higher SPF does not mean that you can stay longer without reapplying; it simply means that you are given higher protection during the same period of time as a lower SPF.

A simple yet essential tip to stay healthy and happy on vacation in Cancun is to drink plenty of water and non-alcoholic liquids. The amount of water we should drink each day is often disputed, although most experts agree that the equivalent of 8 glasses / 2 liters is the ideal amount. In hot weather, this quantity could be even higher. The most important thing is to make sure you drink enough non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day, even while lounging by the pool or at the beach. Ask your poolside waiter or Tiki Bar waiter on the beach to keep you supplied with bottles of water in addition to your cocktails.

Flying and Diving Precautions

The rules about when to fly after you have been diving and vice versa apply to vacations in Cancun where diving is a major attraction. Amazing coral reefs, shipwrecks and a sub aquatic sculpture museum await divers in Cancun. According to most dive experts, diving after a flight does not pose any major health issues, so long as you take into consideration your fitness after a long flight. However, flying after you have been diving can cause major health risks, which is why you are recommended to wait at least 24 hours, preferably 48 hours after diving to take a flight.
