The role of the TAFER Member Advisory Committee (MAC) is to serve in an advisory capacity to TAFER Resorts and UVCI, your Club managers. The MAC provides ideas and recommendations for programs, services and amenities, resort enhancement, and member services, both offsite and on property. Over the years many MAC suggestions have been implemented for the benefit of members and guests visiting the resorts.
There is no reimbursement or compensation for travel costs, rooms or other expenses. However, MAC members find that participation on the committee is very rewarding as it allows them to connect to others with similar interests, strengthen the membership community, develop friendships, and get to know resort and Club management on a personal level.
To date, committee members have been selected from Club Caribe/Villa del Palmar Cancun and Garza Blanca Residence Club, and appointed by the Board. As the overall membership in TAFER resorts has grown, a more structured procedure is now needed. To that end, within the next year we will be initiating a formalized process to introduce new members to the committee on a rolling basis. Although the details are still being finalized and any changes will be up to the Board, following is some general information about how the process will work:
The committee will be made of 12 persons and terms will be staggered with four members rolled on and off annually. Initially, 4 members will be invited for a term of 1 year, 4 for 2 years, and 4 for 3 years in order to establish a staggered –term committee, after which all terms will be 3 years.
Applications will be in questionnaire format and emailed to the primary email account on an annual basis, most likely in Q1 of each year. UVCI will be charged with the difficult task of narrowing down the applicants to 4 positions. Decisions will be based on an unbiased and impartial scoring system that weights various factors such as frequency of visits, destinations visited, and depth of questionnaire responses. Names are hidden and a strict numbering system is used to select the top scores, thereby removing any bias.
There are two conference calls during the year, and one in-person meeting, which is held in conjunction with the annual Member Meeting in May each year. Rooms are not provided. MAC members take the opportunity to use their regular points to book a vacation during this time in order to participate in the face-to-face MAC meeting and other Member Social events. Airfare is not provided, nor are expenses reimbursed. Attendance at the in-person MAC meeting is not required; however, most MAC members do attend. They have made it a tradition to time their vacation to coincide with the Member Meeting to take advantage of the special events taking place. Conference call-in is available for members who cannot attend in person.
MAC members attending the Annual Social are provided one-way complimentary shuttle transportation to the resort for two people to the in-person meeting.
As a “Thank you” to the participants of the MAC, during the Member Meeting week, UVCI provides refreshments during the MAC meeting, and hosts a special VIP lunch. The remaining events are sponsored by the Club as part of the Member Meeting and are complimentary to two people for your membership account; however, advance registration is required as there are space capacities that must be adhered to.
Duration their term, MAC members are internally designated as VIPs in our reservation system and for each trip to the resorts are entitled to special benefits such as a welcome gift and upgraded amenities such as slippers, robe, turn down service, and Concierge check-in, among others (subject to change).
