Understanding Los Cabos

Los Cabos is an area of the southern Baja California Peninsula that includes the cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, and the corridor in between. The stunning new Garza Blanca resort is located on the corridor between the two cities. This sandy strip is a very exclusive neighborhood, away from the crowds but still close to both cities.

Cabo San Lucas is at the southernmost tip of the peninsula. It is the largest city in the Los Cabos area, and perhaps the most well-known city in the area. Swimmable beaches, water activities, entertainment and nightlife can be found here. Medano Beach is the main beach in Cabo San Lucas. Parasailing, jet skiing, paddleboarding and kayaking are available at Medano Beach. The Marina and Downtown are walkable areas full of shops, restaurants and bars. High-end luxury shopping at stores such as Louis Vuitton, Coach and Rolex is available at Luxury Avenue in the Marina, and Plaza Puerto Paraiso downtown. Charter boat rides and glass bottom boat rides are available from the Marina. The Land’s End Arch rock formation is off the coast of Cabo San Lucas.

San Jose Del Cabo is further north, and on the east side of the peninsula, near the airport. It’s a smaller town, more laid back, quieter, and more artsy and quaint. It’s the historic center of the area and features cobblestone streets, small art galleries, artisan shops, and boutique restaurants. There are large beaches here, but some areas have stronger currents and steep drop offs, and some beaches are rocky and unswimmable. Check for information before heading out. There are plenty of watersports in the San Jose Del Cabo area too, including surfing, but many of the snorkel and dive trips, dinner cruises, pirate ships, and water activities leave from the Cabo San Lucas Marina. Nightlife is not as extensive in San Jose Del Cabo, so many visitors take a taxi or bus into Cabo San Lucas to go to nightclubs.

Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Los Cabos is located at the midpoint on the corridor between both cities, which makes it the perfect home base from which to experience both “Cabos”.  The resort has its own swimmable beach, and it’s just a short 20 minute taxi or bus ride in either direction to downtown Cabo San Lucas or downtown San Jose Del Cabo.

Los Cabos is one of the safest tourist destinations in Mexico.Government agencies in Los Cabos have invested in programs to ensure safety and security for tourists traveling there. Safety has always been the number one priority and will continue to be.

According to the United States Department of State, there are no U.S. government restrictions on traveling to Los Cabos.

Los Cabos has invested $50 million in security and launched a 5-point security action plan to ensure the safety of travelers to the region. Part of the plan included upgrades to security infrastructure, equipment and personnel. The regional municipalities have stood united with local, state and international governments and the private sector, together tightening security throughout the region.

These actions have already yielded some impressive results. Data collected by official agencies shows a 96% decrease in security incidents year over year, and record growth in tourism (17% growth) in 2017, which was expected to continue with an average of 2.5 million international visitors per year, and 70% of those being repeat visitors.
