Interview with Nestor Fernandez, Guest Experience Manager

Nestor Fernandez shares his love of the hospitality industry in this exclusive Q&A  

Meet Nestor Fernandez, your Guest Experience Manager at  Villa del Palmar Cancun Luxury Beach Resort & Spa. Originally from Mexico City, he moved to Cancun to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He took some time out of his very busy schedule to share a little about himself with members.  

Tell us a little bit about your career path? 

 I studied theater and contemporary dance. I first moved to Playa del Carmen to work as a dancer at the Wyndam hotel. Dedicated to always improving myself, I then went to work for different hotel chains such as Akumal Beach Resort and Princess Hotels and Resorts, where I gained valuable knowledge about guest entertainment and gradually mastered the English language. I was later offered an opportunity to work at the Paradisus hotel to assist the entertainment department and manage group activities. From there I moved to Playa Mujeres hotel where I was in charge of all the dancers, entertainers, kids club, staff coordination, the orchestra, and stage direction. Professionally I developed a lot and learned to create exceptional guest experiences in each area.   

What inspired you to come and work at Villa del Palmar Cancun? 

I knew about this hotel from its great reputation. I had heard it had an excellent atmosphere and I was curious to know more. I applied for a position and when I met with the General Manager, I knew that we had the same vision and I immediately felt that I belonged here.  

What do you do In your role as Guest Experience Manager? 

dedicate myself to delivering world-class entertainment experiences for all our members and guests. Every day I am motivated by seeing the smiles on their faces and my goal is to always exceed our guests’ expectations.   

What do you do to exceed their expectations? 

try to be empathetic and put myself in the guest’s shoes. I go out of my way to get to know them so that I can find out what their needs are and create an experience that makes them feel special. 

What do you recommend for members and guests to do when they visit Cancun? 

I like to promote the culture and gastronomy of Mexico. I like for people not only to think of Cancun as a place for Spring Break and partying, but I would like them to also know the people, the customs and to try the various types of cuisine.  

Even when this is your passion, it must be exhausting. What do you do to revitalize yourself? 

Meditation helps me a lot. I also enjoy running, cycling and hiking. I always try to be on the move so that my brain is active. My family is also very important to me and the simple fact of being with them, revitalizes me.
