Meet Gabriela Uribe, your Guest Service Manager at Villa del Palmar Cancun Luxury Beach Resort & Spa. Originally from Mexico City, she has been living in Cancun for over 22 years ever since she moved here with her parents and her sister. She took some time out of her very busy schedule to share a little about herself with members.
Could you please tell us a little about your career path to date?
Well, I studied Public Relations and Marketing during which time I made many valuable friendships that are still important to me today. Not long after graduating, life led me into the world of hospitality where I began in the Food and Beverages department, and later moved into a range of different areas including concierge, members services, vacation club administration and the communications department, all of which gave me the opportunity to develop different skills. Today, I am Guest Service Manager, a role where I am very happy to have the opportunity to further develop one of my favorite passions: service.
What does a Guest Service Manager do?
I connect directly with our members and guests who choose us as a destination to spend some time and enjoy their well-deserved vacations. It is very gratifying because every time a member or guest leaves the resort happy, having exceeded their expectations, it brings great satisfaction to have been part of their memories in the making. It motivates me each day and makes me more and more committed to my position.
What do you recommend to members when they visit Cancun?
There is so much to see and do, but I always recommend my favorite place: Isla Mujeres! I love its crystal clear waters and the tranquility there. The most important thing is that whatever members decide to do, whether it be physical activity, rest, exploration, etc, that it is enjoyed 100%. For help deciding what to see and do, members should visit the tour agency on site, where they can also use their discount card to book tours.
You have enjoyed many important positions in the resort so far; how did you start your career here?
I joined the resort 5 years ago as assistant to the General Manager, then the following General Manager guided me towards focusing on the aspects of the hotel related to communication, generating collateral and collaborating on developing content for the newsletters. From there my current position emerged where I now spend more time working on the operational side of the hotel.
What exciting events are planned for the coming months?
Over the years I have been part of organizing a number of events. The most notable over the next few months are the Mexican Food Festival in September when the chef of Zama restaurant will surely surprise us with an incredible selection of dishes each week throughout September. Then in October we welcome back October Wellness, which is dedicated to healthy lifestyles. Likewise, in November we will have our traditional Thanksgiving celebrations, following by the holiday events and our New Year’s party.
What do you like most about your job?
I love being part of a team that is able to create unexpected and extraordinary moments so that we can generate an unforgettable and differentiated experience for those who choose to join us. Also, I enjoy being part of the solution when we need to turn around something that has not gone well so that it ends satisfactorily. I love working while surrounded by beautiful tropical landscape, working with my team in a place where the experiences of our members and guests, as well as the staff, are valued. It is important to me that I can share my ideas with our General Manager and they are taken into account.
The great openness and support of our General Manager is something that has helped in successfully achieving the growth of young talent at the resort: the next generation!
What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
I love spending quality time with my husband, family and friends. I love going to the beach and enjoying the beauty we have in this Cancun paradise! I also like to go to the movies and relax. At the beginning of the year we adopted an adorable pitbull puppy called Arya, and we have fallen in love with her, so we spend most of our time taking her out to play.
