Jose Rios – Manager on Duty

Read below to find out what inspires Jose Rios, your Manager on Duty at Villa del Palmar Cancun.

What would you like to share about yourself with members?

Well, first of all, I am a family man and the eldest of 5 siblings. Originally from Michoacán, I have been living in Cancun for more than 11 years, which I now consider to be my home. I love living here. I couldn’t have found a better place to raise a family and follow my passion to work in the service industry.

I arrived to Cancun after graduating from college with a Business Administration degree to pursue my professional career. Cancun really is a destination par excellence for all those who seek to grow in all aspects of their lives. Since then, I have always worked in hospitality.

Curiously, in high school I was always interested in architecture, drawing and construction and my family guided me towards business management. Now I see that it was a great choice, especially as I have been able to apply it to the field of tourism.

What attracted you to the service industry?

I realized that the service industry is the best way to give the best of myself to others. I have a natural ability to empathize with guests and imagine what it is like for them to be on vacation. That way, I am able to come up with ideas to be able to surprise and serve them with excellence, as if it were my vacation.

How does it feel to be Manager on Duty in such a grand hotel like Villa del Palmar Cancun?

I am very happy and grateful to be part of our members and guest’s experiences, to help resolve any situation that may arise during their stay. And that doesn’t just mean problem solving unpleasant situations; on the contrary, I am involved in creating positive experiences. Even the smallest details like getting a smile from our members fills me with satisfaction. It is my responsibility to sort out any incidences or situations that might affect our member’s full enjoyment. I try to find the best solutions to any problems that may arise.

What recommendations do you have for members when they visit Cancun?

Coming with the willingness to enjoy Cancun to the full is a great start. I like to recommend places that I have visited myself, such as Isla Mujeres, Xel-Ha, Cancun’s various beaches and Playa del Carmen. Visiting the archeological sites is a very enriching. Members should try and visit a different one each time they come to stay.

How do you change or improve an ordinary experience to become an extraordinary one?

First of all I like to get to know our members, to find out their personal preferences and tastes.  Then, I can think about ways to create those wow moments. I pay a lot of attention to the details. If you are celebrating a significant occasion, I will coordinate something special during their stay, maybe at dinner or some detail in their room.

What do you like to do in your free time?

My hobby is playing soccer in the forward position. I am part of the hotel staff team, which is great for team-building. As well as being a team at work, we are a team outside, helping us to form genuine friendships.
