Sarah Diaz Human Resources Manager

One of eight siblings, Sarah Diaz knows what it is like to contribute to the success of a big family. Originally from Veracruz, Villa del Palmar Cancun’s Human Resources Manager has lived in Cancun for more than 24 years, and would not swap her adopted hometown, where she has grown and learned so much, for anywhere. Enjoy this short interview where Sarah shares her experience of working at your home away from home.

When did your passion for working in Human Resources begin?

My first job in Cancun was working in the reception of a hospital, which is where I first discovered that helping and serving people was very fulfilling. I knew then that I wanted to continue in this field in some way. I tried several jobs in different areas including administrative, industrial, healthcare and hotel. Of them all, I was most attracted to the hotel industry. I have always loved being active, seeking to improve my credentials so that I can have a positive effect wherever I work. That is why Human Resources suits me so well. I enjoy being able to respond to my colleagues’ needs, exceeding expectations.

What does it feel like to be the Human Resources Manager at such a big hotel like Villa del Palmar Cancun?

To be honest, it is a great challenge to meet the needs of a hotel that has such distinctive characteristics. Everyday, I learn new ways to meet the challenges that arise and I have grown as the resort has grown and developed. Working in the Human Resources department gives me the opportunity to have direct contact with colleagues, developing trust. We want to create a home away from home for our staff member, so that we create the sense we are one big family, which our members are part of, too.

What would you recommend for members when they visit Cancun?

I would certainly recommend that they enjoy our beaches, Cancun has some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Also that they enjoy the Mexican service; Mexicans are characterized by their charm and hospitality.

How might you change or improve an ordinary experience to turn it into an extraordinary one?

There is nothing that brings me more pleasure than focusing on the small details, the ones that can make all the difference to make extraordinary experiences! The way I like to do this is by thinking with the heart. I plan what I do as though it were my own party or surprise for my family, That’s the best way for me to imagine it, from there those wow moments arise naturally. For example, at Villa del Palmar Cancun, all the details we tailor for members and guests are crafted especially for them. Our colleagues arrange all the the details like a mother would for her children, carried out with love to make us feel special and unique.

What inspired you to come to work at Villa del Palmar Cancun?

I really wanted to return to the hotel industry and feel that passion you feel in this line of work. I wanted to give my best to both colleagues and guests through my team. I hope to be able to share my experiences bringing a positive legacy to the hotel.

What do you like doing in your free time?

I enjoy spending quality time with my family, no matter what we do. I also love spending time with my dog, Frodo. I’m a fan of cinema and love fantasy movies.
